RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ischemic colitis (IC) is also known as colon ischemia and is caused by colon vascular occlusion or nonocclusion, which results in a reduced blood supply to the colon and is not significant enough to maintain the metabolic function of cells, leading to intestinal wall ischemia. Its main symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloody stool. In severe cases, intestinal gangrene, peritonitis, intestinal stenosis and even intestinal obstruction may occur. IC induced by long-term use of certain special drugs is relatively rare in clinical practice. This article describes the clinical diagnosis and treatment of a typical case and provides a new treatment idea for the treatment of IC. CASE SUMMARY: The patient was admitted to the hospital with "abdominal pain for half a month and bloody stool with mucous and pus for 3 d" and was diagnosed with "IC". Symptomatic and supportive treatment, such as antibiotics (levofloxacin), acid inhibition and stomach protection, fluid replenishment, and intravenous nutrition, was given. The patient's colonic ulcers were considered to be related to the oral administration of platelet (PLT)-raising capsules; the patient was asked to stop PLT-raising drugs for selective review via colonoscopy, and antibiotics and mesalazine enteric-coated tablets were stopped. Under the guidance of hematology consultation, 60 mg of methylprednisolone was given in combination with PLT infusion to increase the PLT. After treatment, the patient's condition stabilized, the patient's stool turned yellow, the patient's symptoms improved, and the patient was allowed to leave the hospital. CONCLUSION: PLT-raising capsules can lead to IC, so clinicians should have a full understanding of the application of these drugs in the treatment of various causes of thrombocytopenia, weigh the advantages and disadvantages, and observe patients closely.

RESUMO

Reported herein is direct C(sp3)-H arylation of unprotected benzyl anilines and alkylarenes via consecutive photoinduced electron transfer by visible light irradiation. Reductive quenching cycles and radical-radical cross-coupling were involved, and electron paramagnetic resonance experiments provide evidence for the formation of radical intermediates formed in situ. The protocol highlights transition metal free, external oxidant free, broad substrate scope, and high efficiency (>60 examples, up to 96%).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To address the growing prevalence of youth mental health problems, early intervention is crucial to minimize individual, societal, and economic impacts. Indicative prevention aims to target emerging mental health complaints before the onset of a full-blown disorder. When intervening at this early stage, individuals are more responsive to treatment, resulting in cost-effective outcomes. The Moderated Online Social Therapy platform, which was successfully implemented and proven effective in Australia, is a digital, peer- and clinically moderated treatment platform designed for young people. The Netherlands was the first country outside Australia to implement this platform, under the name Engage Young People Early (ENYOY). It has the potential to reduce the likelihood of young people developing serious mental health disorders. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effects on young people using the ENYOY-platform in relation to psychological distress, psychosocial functioning, and positive health parameters. METHODS: Dutch-speaking young people with emerging mental health complaints (N=131) participated in the ENYOY-platform for 6 months in a repeated measures within-subjects study. Psychological distress, psychosocial functioning, and positive health parameters were assessed at baseline and 3, 6, and 12 months. Repeated measures ANOVA was conducted and adjusted for age, sex, therapy, and community activity. The Reliable Change Index and Clinically Significant Index were computed to compare the baseline with the 6- and 12-month measurements. The missing data rate was 22.54% and the dropout rate 62.6% (82/131). RESULTS: The primary analysis (77/131, 58.8%) showed that psychological distress decreased and psychosocial functioning improved over time with large effect sizes (P<.001 in both cases; ηp2=0.239 and 0.318, respectively) independent of age (P=.76 for psychological distress and P=.48 for psychosocial functioning), sex (P=.24 and P=.88, respectively), therapy activity (P=.49 and P=.80, respectively), or community activity (P=.59 and P=.48, respectively). Similarly, secondary analyses (51/131, 38.9%) showed significant effects of time on the quality of life, well-being, and meaningfulness positive health parameters (P<.05; ηp2=0.062, 0.140, and 0.121, respectively). Improvements in all outcome measures were found between baseline and 3 and 6 months (P≤.001-.01; d=0.23-0.62) and sustained at follow-up (P=.18-.97; d=0.01-0.16). The Reliable Change Index indicated psychological distress improvements in 38% (39/102) of cases, no change in 54.9% (56/102) of cases, and worsening in 5.9% (6/102) of cases. Regarding psychosocial functioning, the percentages were 50% (51/102), 43.1% (44/102), and 6.9% (7/102), respectively. The Clinically Significant Index demonstrated clinically significant changes in 75.5% (77/102) of cases for distress and 89.2% (91/102) for functioning. CONCLUSIONS: This trial demonstrated that the ENYOY-platform holds promise as a transdiagnostic intervention for addressing emerging mental health complaints among young people in the Netherlands and laid the groundwork for further clinical research. It would be of great relevance to expand the population on and service delivery of the platform. INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED REPORT IDENTIFIER (IRRID): RR2-10.1186/s12888-021-03315-x.

RESUMO

In the context of climate change and human factors, the drought problem is a particularly serious one, and environmental pollution caused by the abuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is increasingly serious. Endophytic fungi can be used as a protection option, which is ecologically friendly, to alleviate abiotic stresses on plants, promote plant growth, and promote the sustainable development of agriculture and forestry. Therefore, it is of great significance to screen and isolate endophytic fungi that are beneficial to crops from plants in special habitats. In this study, endophytic fungi were isolated from Cotoneaster multiflorus, and drought-tolerant endophytic fungi were screened by simulating drought stress with different concentrations of PEG-6000, and the growth-promoting effects of these drought-tolerant strains were evaluated. A total of 113 strains of endophytic fungi were isolated and purified from different tissues of C. multiflorus. After simulated drought stress, 25 endophytic fungi showed strong drought tolerance. After ITS sequence identification, they belonged to 7 genera and 12 species, including Aspergillus, Fusarium, Colletotrichum, Penicillium, Diaporthe, Geotrichum, and Metarhizium. According to the identification and drought stress results, 12 strains of endophytic fungi with better drought tolerance were selected to study their abilities of dissolving inorganic phosphorus and potassium feldspar powder and producing indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). It was found that the amount of dissolved phosphorus in 7 strains of endophytic fungi was significantly higher than that of CK, and the content of soluble phosphorus was 101.98-414.51 µg. ml-1; 6 endophytic fungi had significantly higher potassium solubilization than CK, and the content of water-soluble potassium ranged from 19.17 to 30.94 mg·l-1; 6 strains have the ability to produce IAA, and the yield of IAA ranged between 0.04 and 0.42 mg. ml-1. This study for the first time identified the existence of endophytic fungi with drought tolerance and growth-promoting function in C. multiflorus, which could provide new direction for plant drought tolerance and growth promotion fungi strain resources. It also provides a theoretical basis for the subsequent application of endophytic fungi of C. multiflorus in agricultural and forestry production to improve plant tolerance.

RESUMO

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) has aroused great interest in organic electrics because of its high electrical conductivity and mechanical flexibility. To improve the charge transport, it can act as an ionic liquid (IL) additive due to its ion characteristics and high electrical conductivity. Herein, we investigated the hole-transport performance of PEDOT treated by ILs featuring specific ion ratios (4 : 1, 3 : 1, 2 : 1, 1 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 3, and 1 : 4) of the cation and anion through classical dynamics simulations and quantum mechanics computations. The hole mobility of the amorphous PEDOT, constituting nine EDOT monomers, could be improved to 16.81, 18.03, and 10.14 cm2 V-1 s-1 when synergistically regulating the ion ratio to 2 : 1, 3 : 1, and 4 : 1. Consequently, these ratios potentially achieved nearly a 100-fold improvement in the electrical conductivity with respect to the pristine system. The improvements mainly stemmed from the fact that decreasing the amount of anions in ILs and prolonging the chain length of PEDOT yielded an ordered face-to-face π-π stacking. The electronic coupling and charge excitation further confirmed that the anions play an active role in tunneling the hole transport in ILs/heterogeneous PEDOT, and the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level of PEDOT was up-shifted significantly after treatment by the ratios of 2 : 1, 3 : 1, and 4 : 1, which favored the electron-donating ability and was in line with the extraordinary enhancement of the hole mobility. Our results imply that regulating the ion ratio in ILs is a novel strategy for modulating the electronic properties and π-stacked morphology of PEDOT.

RESUMO

The activity of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdTase) is a biomarker for routine diagnosis of acute leukemia. A method has been developed for the determination of TdTase activity. It is based on the use of silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) whose yellow fluorescence is enhanced by an in-situ grown DNA tail of TdTase-polymerized and guanine-rich DNA at the 3' end of a hairpin DNA. The fluorescence, best measured at excitation/emission peaks of 530/585 nm, increases linearly in the 1 to 35 mU mL-1 TdTase activity range. The detection limit is 0.8 mU mL-1. The method is cost-efficient, selective and convenient. It integrates enhancement of the fluorescence of AgNCs and target recognition into a single process. Graphical abstract Schematic presentation of a method for determination of TdTase activity. It is based on AgNCs fluorescence enhanced by in-situ grown TdTase-polymerized G-rich DNA tail.
